Our mission is to empower science teachers to advocate for excellence in science teaching and learning.

STOM and NSTA

Science Teachers of Missouri is the state chapter of the National Science Teachers Association. As the state chapter, STOM works closely with NSTA on education issues at the National Level.

The National Science Teachers Association (NSTA), founded in 1944 and headquartered in Arlington, Virginia, is the largest organization in the world committed to promoting excellence and innovation in science teaching and learning for all. NSTA's current membership of more than 55,000 includes science teachers, science supervisors, administrators, scientists, business and industry representatives, and others involved in and committed to science education.

The Goals of Science Teachers

of Missouri (STOM)

Provide information about policies and practices that affect science education (STOM disseminates up-to-date news and information to stakeholders through its website, newsletters, and social media)

Enhance the professional development of science educators (STOM provides tools, resources, and opportunities for professional learning)

Promote innovations that improve science literacy for all MO students (STOM values research and evidence based practices)

Advocate for high quality science teaching and learning (STOM advocates for 3-Dimensional teaching and learning that emphasizes disciplinary core ideas, practices, and cross-cutting concepts)
