2017 STOM Elections

Are you serious about Science Education?  Do you want to be a leader within the largest network of science teachers in the world?  Do you want your voice to be heard? Science Teachers of Missouri is the only non-profit affiliated with NSTA and we want you!

STOM’s mission is to advocate for teachers in the area of science.  STOM offers workshops, conferences, and support to teachers all around Missouri.  Currently we are searching for new leaders to carry on our great legacy.  Don’t be afraid to step up and apply to run for office!

Elections will take place for the following positions:

President-Elect - The president elect will have a three year term, the second being the lead in STOM.  You will represent Missouri at the National Congress of Education and at the NSTA National Conference (paid for by STOM). You will run the STOM meetings and work closely with the board to ensure science teachers across the state are supported.  They also are the lead in preparing the conference. (STOM will not have a conference in 2018 due to the NSTA conference in St. Louis)

Urban Director II, Suburban Director II, Rural Director II - These directors represent the region in which they teach.  They support the different needs of teachers.  They sit on the board as a voting member. (2018-2020)

Pre-Service Director - The pre-service director works directly with colleges and teachers entering the classroom.  They sit on the board as a voting member. (2018-2020)

Preschool and Elementary Director - The preschool and elementary director works to ensure that elementary teachers get support in science.  They sit on the board as a voting member.  (2018-2020)

Don’t be afraid to step up and lead!  Your voice is important.  We need board members across the entire state so every teacher is represented.  This year is a very exciting time and a great time to get active due to the NSTA National Conference in 2019.  You will get free attendance if you choose to work at the conference.

To apply or run for a position, please fill out the form and return it to Mike Szydlowski at Mike and the other members of the Nominations Committee, in accordance with STOM’s by-laws, will review the applications and contact you if you have been selected to be on the ballot!  Good luck - we need you!
